Summary
CM Punk says one of the biggest surprises of his WWE Elimination Chamber entrance was learning that Ray Clay would be part of it.
Punk entered to "Sirius" by The Alan Parsons Project at the United Center, leaning fully into the Chicago Bulls presentation that made the music famous during Michael Jordan's era. While speaking on *All The Smoke*, Punk said he only realized Clay was involved when he heard the legendary announcer's voice during rehearsal.
The entrance was another example of WWE giving Punk room to build around his Chicago identity, and it came during the same event where Danhausen made his WWE Elimination Chamber debut. Punk went on to defeat Finn Balor that night.
Quote from CM Punk
"I didn’t even know about Ray Clay. Then, I heard his voice in the rehersal and I literally was like, ‘Is that really him? Is he alive?’ I look up and on the scoreboard on the United Center they have banners hanging. Being a kid from Chicago, currently living two miles from the United Center, it means something to me. I hope my gratitude shows through it. Those are amazing moments and it helps illustrate that if you’re passionate about something and you give it your all and you deal with the heartbreak and setbacks, a lot of good can come from this."
Punk later went on to say:
"It was a collaboration but the spark was me. When I came up in the WWE, it was a wildly different place. If I would have suggested that back then, they would’ve laughed at me. Vince (McMahon) does not like to spend money licensing music. Alan Parsons Project was very expensive. You’d almost put that to bed before you vocalize it. It would never happen. Now, it’s a new place. A lot of times, it’s smarter to have the conversation, take that shot in the dark, and someone will pick it up and run wild with it."
What the entrance says about CM Punk's place heading into WrestleMania 42
CM Punk getting that level of production at Elimination Chamber underlines how heavily WWE is still positioning him as a centerpiece star on the road to WrestleMania 42. A licensed song, a United Center-specific presentation, and Ray Clay's involvement all point to the company treating the moment as more than a standard entrance.
It also fits the bigger picture around Punk's title run. He is set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, and this kind of presentation reinforces that WWE sees him as a major-event attraction when the stakes are highest.
