Summary
Darby Allin has his first AEW World Championship defense lined up for the April 22 episode of Dynamite, where he will meet Tommaso Ciampa in a first-time singles match.
The title bout was made official after Allin won the championship in Wednesday's main event, defeating MJF to start a new reign at the top of AEW.
How the match came together
Ciampa earned the shot earlier in the same show when he defeated Dezmond Xavier. After that win, he made it clear he wanted the AEW World Championship next.
That challenge now puts Ciampa straight into the title picture only days after calling his shot on Dynamite.
Wednesday's lineup also includes Mina Shirakawa vs. Hikaru Shida, Will Ospreay vs. Mark Davis, and an advertised appearance by Allin.
What this means for Darby Allin and AEW
Allin's first defense will help define what his title run looks like right away. A quick turnaround against Ciampa gives AEW an immediate championship program for Dynamite, and it also tests whether Ciampa can turn his post-match challenge into a real climb toward the top of the card.
Because this is their first meeting, the match also gives AEW a fresh world title pairing instead of circling back to Allin's win over MJF.
