Summary
Jacob Fatu says his feud with Roman Reigns has created real friction with some of the older members of his family.
While speaking on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Fatu said the tension comes from how deeply family matters within Polynesian culture. He explained that some of the elders, especially relatives back home near San Francisco and the Cow Palace, do not like seeing cousins fight each other the way he and Reigns are doing now.
That adds another layer to a rivalry that has already been central to WWE's Backlash build, including the recent contract signing between Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu on WWE Raw. Fatu also noted that his family had seen similar tension before when Reigns and Jey Uso were at odds.
Quote from Jacob Fatu
"This is the side that people don’t see, yeah there’s friction from the elders. If you know our culture and you know us — I’m not just talking about Samoans and Tongans, I’m talking about our Polynesian people — you know how family means so much to us. I mean, look at The Bloodline. We talk about our children, we talk a lot because it’s family over everything. So yeah, it is different. Yeah man, there’s a little friction here and there, especially with the OGs, the ones who are actually back at home and back in San Francisco next to the Cow Palace. It’s a little different, especially having our cousins, there’s a lot of us. Of course they don’t want to see us go at it, our cousins, they’re not no fans to where it’s different when they see us working somebody else compared to us working together. They seen it with Roman, they’re seen it with Jey. That didn’t start off good, but then once The Bloodline started coming, we started to understand. Now, it’s different."
What Jacob Fatu's comments mean for Roman Reigns at Backlash
Fatu's comments give the Reigns feud something more personal than the usual pre-match talk. Instead of selling this as a simple fight between stablemates or relatives, he is describing it as a clash that has rippled back through the family itself.
For WWE, that gives the Backlash program a stronger emotional hook. Reigns and Fatu are not just trading threats on television, they are being framed as two major Bloodline figures pulling on the same family history from different directions.
