Summary
Matt Striker shared an emotional remembrance of Bray Wyatt during a recent interview, describing Wyatt as someone whose care for other people came through immediately when you were around him.
Striker said his connection to Wyatt also ran through family ties. He noted that he knew Wyatt's father well, and said that relationship gave his memories of Wyatt even more weight as he reflected on the late former WWE star.
Quote from Matt Striker
Speaking during an interview with MuscleManMalcolm, Striker said:
"I’m going to get choked up. You know, a lot of times we only know the persona we see on TV. If you knew that some of your heroes weren’t such wonderful people, it would break your heart. But when you find out that some of the most notorious villains have the biggest hearts, it really just… reinforces your faith in humanity. Husky (Bray Wyatt) was a wonderful human being. I knew his father very well. His father and the man that trained me, Johnny Rodz, have a long history. So there is that familial tie. But the one thing that stood out about Husky, rest his soul, was in his eyes, and if you look deep enough into someone’s eyes, you can see everything, whether they want you to or not, and that young man’s eyes were filled with love and passion and he cared, and I think that’s something that’s lost in this day and age. People are afraid to care about each other. We’re only caring about ourselves. Every morning we wake up, we go to our phone and we look at things about ourselves, ourselves. Husky was a guy that his light shined out, and I think that’s a very important thing to bring forward."
Bray Wyatt's legacy in WWE
Striker's comments underline how Bray Wyatt's influence continues to be felt long after his passing, not just through old promos and matches, but through the way people in wrestling still talk about him as a person. That emotional connection has remained visible in WWE programming too, with Wyatt's symbolism still surfacing in stories such as the recent SmackDown angle involving Bray Wyatt's lantern.
For fans, that matters because Striker was not talking about Wyatt's creativity or star power in the abstract. He was pointing to Wyatt's character away from the screen, which adds another layer to why Bray Wyatt still holds such a distinct place in WWE's recent history.
