Summary
Maven shared another story from his time around a young Randy Orton, this one involving a breakfast stop that went badly off the rails.
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Maven said he was at a Denny's with Orton and another unnamed person when Orton first sent back poached eggs that had been prepared incorrectly. Maven said the replacement oatmeal that arrived afterward looked even worse, and the exchange with the waitress quickly escalated.
Quote from Maven
"We're in a Denny's. Randy gets the wrong oatmeal. Well, first off, they messed his eggs up. He used to get poached eggs. They bring them to him, and they're messed up. He's like, 'Yeah, I'm not eating these. Send them back.' They bring him his oatmeal, and I'm not kidding. There's an inch of mop bucket water on the top of this oatmeal. The waitress made the mistake. He's like, 'What's this? This is standing water. I'm not eating this.' The waitress looks at him and says, 'Maybe you should have made your own fucking breakfast.' I'm looking at all my food, and I'm like, 'Man, I got my food. Whatever happens to you is on you now.'"
Maven then described Orton throwing the oatmeal, which led to the manager coming over to deal with the situation.
Maven later went on to say:
"Orton looked at her and threw the oatmeal. So out comes the manager. The manager looks and sees. It was me, Orton, and someone else. I'm not going to say who. The manager sizes us up. I'm the smallest guy in the group, and the manager says, 'Well, you're going to have to pay for that oatmeal and the one they're making.' In true Randy Orton fashion, he says, 'I'll buy every box of oatmeal you got if you can get one of them right.' That was a tame day, with early Randy Orton."
What the Maven story says about Randy Orton
Maven framed the story as one of many he could tell about Orton in his younger days, and it fits the long-running reputation Orton had early in his career for being unpredictable outside the ring as well as inside it. That contrast stands out even more now that Orton remains one of WWE's most established stars, including during a stacked April 3 SmackDown appearance.
For longtime fans, the anecdote is less about current storyline direction and more about how wrestlers who spent time around Orton still talk about that first phase of his WWE run. Maven even called this a tame example, which says plenty about how wild he remembers those days being.
