Summary

NJPW closed out Wrestling Dontaku on May 4 with a sold-out show at Fukuoka International Center, where 3,603 fans saw Callum Newman keep the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, two title changes, and SANADA make his return.

The main event saw Newman turn back Shingo Takagi in his latest defense, while Místico and El Desperado captured the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. United Empire also left the show with gold after Great-O-Khan, HENARE, and Will Ospreay defeated Oleg Boltin, YOSHI-HASHI, and Hirooki Goto for the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship.

That made for a busy second night in Fukuoka, especially with the Junior tag title change earlier on the card and SANADA returning later in the show.

SANADA's return shifts another NJPW title picture

SANADA's return added another notable development to the night after Konosuke Takeshita retained the NJPW World Television Championship. That immediately gave NJPW another fresh direction coming out of Dontaku, especially after SANADA resurfaced and set his sights on Takeshita.

Callum Newman's successful defense matters just as much. Beating Shingo Takagi keeps the IWGP Heavyweight Champion moving with momentum, and it gives NJPW a clear top champion to build around after one of the promotion's biggest spring shows.
