Summary

Paul Wight says two AEW names still stand out to him as potential opponents or partners if he gets back into the ring, Kenny Omega and Darby Allin.

While speaking on Under The Mat with Simon Miller, Wight said Omega is someone he has respected for a long time and someone he would gladly either team with or face. He also said the idea of working a heel program with Darby Allin especially appeals to him because of the size contrast and the kind of chaos that matchup could create.

Quote from Paul Wight

Wight named Omega first before turning to the possibility of facing Darby:

"So when I look at our AEW roster, even though he's not a younger cat, he's still somebody that I've had respect with for a long time, Kenny Omega. Kenny and I, I think Kenny is one I would think like, man, I would love to either tag with Kenny or to compete against Kenny. I would love to have a great heel run and work Darby. Oh, my God. Because I could sling Darby's guts all over the place. Like, even the old school one where I slammed Rey into the ring post when he was tied to the stretcher. I can only imagine the carnage I could do with Darby."

What Darby Allin Means For Paul Wight In AEW

Darby Allin is already positioned as one of AEW's most resilient stars, and Sting once pointed to Darby as a future leader in AEW. That makes Wight's comments notable, because he is not talking about a random exhibition, he is talking about stepping into the orbit of one of the promotion's most protected risk-takers.

Omega gives Wight a different kind of possibility. A tag match or singles match with Omega would lean on name value and contrast, while a heel run against Darby would be built around spectacle and punishment. For now, Wight's comments are only a wishlist, but they make clear where he sees the most interesting AEW matchups for himself.
