Summary

The Wyatt Sicks were among the names released by WWE on April 24, and a new report has offered a possible explanation for why the group was included in those cuts.

During a recent Q&A, Mike Johnson said there has been talk among talent that someone within the TKO side is not particularly interested in darker wrestling characters. He stressed that he could not confirm that explanation, but said the idea has circulated widely over the last week.

Johnson also said that Aleister Black and Zelina were mentioned in the same conversation about the releases.

Quote from Mike Johnson

"I don't know if there's a pattern but I can tell you there's been a story bouncing around among talents that someone in the TKO realm isn't a fan of the darker characters and that's been the blame placed on why The Wyatts, Aleister Black, Zelina, etc. were all cut. One person even suggested to me that Undertaker being The American Badass and not The Deadman in appearances is proof of that outlook.

I have no way to prove that is correct, but the story has made the rounds this past week among numerous people we've spoken with. Whether there is something to it, or just assumptions, I can't verify at this juncture. I guess we will see if and when WWE leans back into supernatural and dark characters again."

What this could mean for WWE's darker characters

If that belief inside the locker room turns out to be accurate, The Wyatt Sicks being part of the April 24 cuts would say a lot about how WWE currently views supernatural or horror-leaning presentation. It would also put extra attention on whether future character concepts in that space make it to television in the same form, especially after acts like The Wyatt Sicks and Aleister Black were tied to that discussion.

For now, though, this remains unconfirmed backstage speculation rather than an established company position.
