Summary
Brock Lesnar's apparent WrestleMania 42 farewell may not have been the end after all.
After Lesnar lost to Oba Femi and left his boots and gloves in the ring, there was immediate speculation that WWE had just staged his retirement. According to the latest reporting, the belief within WWE is that Lesnar is not done yet, even if retirement is still expected to happen at some point later this year.
That adds a different layer to a weekend that already included Triple H suggesting Lesnar may have retired after WrestleMania 42.
Quote from Dave Meltzer
"I will only say that, based on people in WWE, they believe he's not retiring yet, although he is retiring probably at some point this year. I don't know that anyone knows, this might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet like the Seth Rollins thing. A couple of people have mentioned it, that's the belief."
Meltzer later went on to say:
"At one point, they were actually going to do a (full) feud with Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi, but that was dropped weeks ago. At one point, this was not going to be a one-and-done."
What Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi's match could mean now
If the original plan really was a longer Lesnar vs. Oba Femi program, then the WrestleMania 42 result stands out even more as a major single-night boost for Femi. It would mean WWE chose to give Femi the signature win without committing Lesnar to an immediate follow-up feud.
For Lesnar, the bigger takeaway is uncertainty. Leaving the boots and gloves behind still framed the loss like a possible farewell, but this report suggests WWE may be keeping his actual end point quiet. That would leave room for one more appearance or one more major match later this year, even if nothing is confirmed yet.
