Summary
Road Dogg has addressed his WWE departure for the first time, saying he felt "done a little wrong" by the company after his exit became public in March.
Road Dogg had been with WWE since 2014. He was named co-lead writer of SmackDown in February 2025 before leaving the company on March 5.
When asked what led to the split, Road Dogg said he felt like he was still being paid without having a real purpose inside the company or meaningful input on decisions.
Quote from Road Dogg
Road Dogg said:
"Did any of you watch Unreal? I'm old, so I'm not a fan, it's a little behind the scenes. I feel like I don't need to tell you what happened. I feel like if you watched that show, you saw what happened, and so here I sit. I'm happy with it. I have friends there, that are still going to be there. I have gripes, I do have gripes, but saying that even sounds shitty to say. 'Oh, you're going to gripe about stuff?' Why? People there are still my friends. I feel like I was done a little wrong and I feel like I was receiving a paycheck, and I didn't have any purpose. I was making a dollar, but I wasn't making any decisions. I think I can make a difference somewhere, where maybe I don't make as many dollars. In this phase in my life, that's what I'm thinking of."
What Road Dogg's WWE comments could mean next
Road Dogg's remarks make it clear his frustration was less about simply leaving WWE and more about feeling disconnected from the creative role he had been given on SmackDown. That matters because it frames his exit as a breakdown in trust and influence, not just another routine personnel move.
He also said he believes he can still make a difference somewhere else, even if that means earning less money. For wrestling fans, that leaves the door open to a more active next chapter for Road Dogg rather than a quiet step away from the business.
