Summary
WWE is reportedly making an effort to keep Xavier Woods connected to the company even after The New Day's split from the promotion became public.
Bryan Alvarez said that WWE is trying to retain Woods through what he described as "the Tyler Breeze deal," meaning Woods would be paid to continue doing work tied to the video game side of the business. That update followed the earlier report that WWE was surprised by Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods leaving.
Alvarez added that he does not know whether Woods will accept the offer, but said the situation means it is not guaranteed that both members of The New Day will end up in AEW together.
Quote from Bryan Alvarez
"I will say, and I've heard this from a lot a lot of people this weekend, that I do believe that WWE is trying to retain Xavier Woods with what was referred to repeatedly as 'the Tyler Breeze deal,' which is basically he gets paid money to do stuff for the video game.
"And, uh, I don't know if he will accept that offer. I don't know what's going on in his head, but he might.
"So, it is not a foregone conclusion that both of The New Day are going to AEW. It's likely going to happen, I would say, but there are things being done where WWE is trying to retain him for other things."
What the Xavier Woods update could mean for WWE
Xavier Woods staying tied to WWE in a gaming-related role would leave the company with a way to keep one of The New Day's most recognizable personalities in its orbit, even if his in-ring future changes.
It also adds some uncertainty to the idea that Woods and Kofi Kingston will automatically make the same next move. Based on Alvarez's comments, WWE is still trying to keep a relationship with Woods alive in at least one area of the business.
