Summary
AJ Styles looked back on several of the standout matches from his career and said his favorite WrestleMania bout in WWE came against Shane McMahon.
While reflecting on career highlights, Styles pointed to matches with Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Chris Sabin, Jerry Lynn and Roman Reigns before singling out his WrestleMania meeting with McMahon as the one he rates highest on that stage.
That match still stands out because Styles said the build and in-ring execution came together exactly the way both men wanted. Shane McMahon remains a name fans still associate with major WWE spectacle matches, and even outside WWE discussion, he has continued to draw attention in recent months, including when Tony Khan said Shane McMahon was not seeking an on-screen AEW role.
Quote from AJ Styles
"Me and Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe, Unbreakable, that's another match that people love."
Styles also mentioned other opponents he believes brought out some of his best work.
AJ Styles later went on to say:
"And me and Chris, and me and Jerry Lynn, we all had great matches. I could pick out matches from any one of those guys. With Samoa Joe, I can pick them out easily, it's easy to go back and find those matches.
There are so many great matches that I think I've had. Like you're talking about, me and Roman Reigns had some great matches. I don't know if a lot of people expected that.
Here's another thing, the best WrestleMania match I had was against Shane McMahon. You've got Shane, who is a perfectionist. He wants it perfect, and man, I get that. We just so happened to be able to place things where they should in the storyline we had going into it, and it made it a perfect match."
What AJ Styles' WrestleMania choice says about Shane McMahon
Styles putting the Shane McMahon match above his other WrestleMania outings says plenty about how highly he values structure and execution on the biggest WWE stage. It also reinforces how much that match depended on timing, character work and a clear story rather than just marquee star power.
For WWE fans, the comment also adds another reminder that Styles sees that WrestleMania performance as one of the strongest examples of his full run with the company, even when measured against his later matches with names like Roman Reigns.
