Summary

Chelsea Green said she was nearly home after a long trip to visit her grandmother in the hospital when WWE called her to Raw for a short-notice appearance against Jade Cargill.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Green said she had just landed in Calgary during a 16-hour journey when she was told to come in for a match that would last about 30 seconds. Green said that circumstance only made her more determined to make the moment count, especially because of what she had left behind to take the booking.

The match Green referenced was her loss to Cargill on the April 8, 2024 episode of Raw. More recently, Green has also been in the news for discussing her recovery after a heart procedure, including her idea for a SmackDown call-in while she recovers.

Quote from Chelsea Green

"One time, I actually got called to Raw. I was on my way on a 16-hour journey home to see my grandmother, who was in the hospital doing terribly. She was 92 years old, and I had literally just about landed. I landed in Calgary and was going to go to my next flight. They called me into Raw to lose to Jade in 30 seconds. I thought, 'If I don't bump my ass off, this was all for nothing.' God forbid my grandmother passes away or something terrible happens. I want to know I went to work, I turned around, and I made Jade and her finish look the best it's ever looked. That clip of me taking Jade's finish is always used in all her packages and my packages."

Green later went on to say:

"I did the same thing when they called me in to stand on the side with Sonya Deville was wrestling Becky. I had to stand there and they said, 'You're going to take a couple of barricades.' I thought, 'I'm going to look like I'm dying.' You have to because if you don't bump your butt off for those people, you're just making yourself look bad as well."

What the Jade Cargill match said about Chelsea Green

Green's story speaks to the role she has carved out in WWE, where even a very short match with Jade Cargill was treated as a chance to help a major presentation land on television. That matters because Green framed the assignment as more than just taking a loss, she saw it as a way to strengthen Cargill's aura while also making sure her own performance stood out.

It also underlines how WWE has used Green as a dependable utility player in different situations. Whether it is a quick showcase for Cargill or a ringside bump during another segment, Green's comments show why she has remained valuable on television even when the spotlight is meant to elevate someone else.
