Summary

Cody Rhodes made his return to SmackDown on March 27, two weeks after Randy Orton's brutal surprise attack on the American Nightmare left him off television. Rhodes missed both subsequent SmackDown episodes before showing up this week, arriving at the arena in his tour bus.

Orton had just finished a match against Matt Cardona when Rhodes made his entrance. Despite taking more than three minutes to walk from the arena entrance to the ring, Orton stood waiting. When Rhodes finally stepped between the ropes, the brawl was immediate.

Over a dozen security personnel flooded the ring trying to separate the two, but it wasn't enough. Both men kept breaking through and trading offense in a chaotic scene that kept restarting every time officials thought they had it under control.

The Jelly Roll Moment

When things appeared to settle, country rapper Jelly Roll entered the ring to play peacekeeper. Orton had other ideas. With Jelly Roll's back turned to The Viper, Orton dispatched several nearby security guards and hit the RKO on the celebrity guest. Orton then left the ring as the show went off the air.

Road to WrestleMania 42

Orton and Rhodes are booked for an Undisputed WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 42. The contract for that match was signed earlier this month, moments before Orton's heel turn set the feud in motion.

With WrestleMania approaching, the segment served as the latest salvo in a feud built on betrayal. Orton isn't just the challenger at this point. He's turned every attempt at resolution into another act of violence, and the Jelly Roll RKO signals he has no interest in drawing any lines going into the biggest show of the year.

The real question now is whether Rhodes gets any meaningful revenge before WrestleMania, or whether Orton arrives at the event still holding the psychological edge.
