Summary

Conan O’Brien looked back on his first podcast episode with Danhausen and used the moment to congratulate the WWE newcomer on reaching the biggest promotion in wrestling.

O’Brien recalled that Danhausen told him years ago that the character was loosely inspired by the comedian, only with an interdimensional demon twist. He also remembered how much work Danhausen was putting in at the time, including long drives every weekend just to get in front of crowds and wrestle.

Now that Danhausen has signed with WWE and appeared across Raw and SmackDown, O’Brien revisited that earlier conversation and praised the path that got him there. That recent WWE attention also follows other headlines around the character, including Danhausen joking that several WWE names he cursed were finally uncursed.

Quote from Conan O’Brien

"Danhausen explained to me, when we did this very first fan episode, that he had loosely based his wrestling character on me if I was an interdimensional demon, which seems redundant to me. Danhausen and I had a great conversation. We talked about comedy, performance, a love of entertaining people. What struck me, and I remember this to this day, Danhausen told me he had been grinding away for the past eight years, driving 12 hours every weekend just to be able to get in front of people and wrestle. This is a guy who applied incredible work ethic to his passion. I was so impressed with this fellow."

O’Brien later went on to say:

"Now, it’s five years later, and I’m thrilled to report that Danhausen has recently made his WWE debut to rave reviews. This is proof again that if you can marry hard work to your passion, you can go places. On behalf of myself and all of us here at Team Coco, massive congratulations and mad respect to Danhausen. I’m so proud of you, happy for you, and I should mention that since your character is based on me, I’m getting 20%."

What Conan O’Brien's message adds to Danhausen's WWE arrival

Danhausen getting that kind of public praise from Conan O’Brien adds a little extra mainstream shine to his WWE arrival, especially because the comedian framed it as the payoff to years of work rather than a sudden break.

For WWE, the callback also reinforces that Danhausen's act had a clear identity long before his debut. That matters when a character is being introduced to a broader television audience on both Raw and SmackDown.
