Summary
Finn Balor says bringing out The Demon is not something he can do whenever he wants, and he says the persona takes a serious toll ahead of his WrestleMania 42 match with Dominik Mysterio.
Balor is set to wrestle as The Demon for the first time since WrestleMania 39, when he faced Edge inside Hell in a Cell. With the character now returning for one of WWE's biggest matches of the year, Balor described it less as a costume change and more as something he has to summon only in rare moments.
That lines up with the way WWE has framed the match so far. Dominik Mysterio has already said Demon Finn Balor presents a different level of challenge, and Balor's own description adds to that idea going into WrestleMania 42.
Quote from Finn Balor
"It's not something I can really describe in words. It's a feeling. It's an emotion. It's an energy. It's something that I can only tap into very occasionally. It can be very draining. Trust me, it's going to be very painful for Dominik Mysterio."
What The Demon Return Means for Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio
Balor bringing back The Demon gives the WrestleMania 42 match a bigger sense of occasion straight away. WWE has treated the persona as something he uses sparingly, so its return tells fans this is not being framed as just another grudge match on the card.
It also puts extra focus on the result because The Demon has not won in Balor's last two appearances, against Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules 2021 and against Edge at WrestleMania 39. If Balor wins, it restores some of the aura around the character. If he loses again, the mystique of The Demon takes another hit at the same event where it is finally being brought back.
