Summary

Kane says the mask was not the toughest part of working in his original WWE presentation. According to the former WWE star, the full-body suit he wore after his debut was more difficult to deal with than the mask itself.

Speaking during a recent interview, Kane said the mask did limit his peripheral vision somewhat, but it was still manageable because it sat off his face and allowed him to breathe. The more challenging part, he said, was the gear that covered nearly all of his body.

That kind of behind-the-scenes detail has come up in other recent veteran interviews too, including when Road Dogg said booking multiple hours of WWE TV is harder than fans realize, with both comments pulling back the curtain on parts of wrestling fans do not always see.

Kane on wearing the suit and mask

Kane explained that the mask took some adjustment, but not because of breathing problems. Instead, he said it mainly reduced his peripheral vision a little before he got used to it.

The bigger issue was the suit itself, which covered everything except his left arm. That made the full presentation more demanding to work in than fans might have assumed from the outside.

Quote from Kane

"No, not really. Yeah, the mask, you know, folks will ask if I could breathe. It sat off my face, and it had the slit and it had eye holes. So it wasn't that bad. The only thing it did is it did cut down my peripheral vision a little bit, but not terribly. It did take a little bit of getting used to, obviously, to be comfortable with it. But, you know, the harder part, actually, was probably, like, the full body suit. You know, everything except my left arm was covered."

What Kane's comment says about that WWE character

Kane's explanation adds more texture to one of WWE's most recognizable character designs, because it shows the gear itself created a physical challenge beyond the visual presentation. For a character built around intimidation and mystery, that meant the look came with real in-ring tradeoffs.

It also helps explain why the original Kane presentation left such a strong impression. The full suit and mask helped define the character, but Kane's comments make clear that maintaining that image required more adjustment than the audience likely realized.
