Summary
Kevin Knight says the advice Darby Allin gave him near the start of his wrestling career is still shaping the way he approaches the biggest match of his AEW run so far.
Knight is scheduled to challenge Allin for the AEW World Championship on Wednesday's Dynamite, a match that was already spotlighted in the AEW Dynamite lineup. Ahead of that title shot, Knight reflected on first meeting Allin through the Buddy Wayne Academy in Seattle and said one message stuck with him from the beginning.
Quote from Kevin Knight
"I'm doing everything that I've always done, and the biggest thing that I'm doing is taking Darby Allin's advice because when I was about three months into wrestling, I first met Darby because we came from the same school, the Buddy Wayne Academy, up in Seattle, Washington, and the first time I ever met him, he told me, 'man, don't waste time. Like, I know you're early in your career, but the biggest thing I can tell you is don't waste any time', and I think I've just followed his advice throughout my career and made an impact everywhere I've been, and especially in AEW here in less than a year, a little over a year. I'm a two-time Trios champ, the current TNT champ, and now I'm going for the world title against Darby Allin. Again, the stars are aligning, and, you know, I'm just taking Darby's advice. So I can only thank Darby for this opportunity, to be honest. So my training to answer your question going into this is just keep doing what I'm doing because obviously it's been working. So I'm sticking to my vision and we're going to keep it working, follow through with it tomorrow."
What Darby Allin's advice means for this title match
Knight tied that early lesson directly to his current momentum in AEW. He framed his rise, from becoming a two-time Trios champion to holding the TNT Championship and now challenging for the world title, as proof that staying aggressive with opportunities has worked.
That makes Wednesday's match feel like more than a routine title defense. Darby Allin enters it as champion, but Knight is presenting himself as someone who has followed that same all-in mindset all the way into AEW's top title picture.
