Summary
Konosuke Takeshita will challenge Kazuchika Okada for the AEW International Championship at Double or Nothing on May 24.
The match was agreed to during Wednesday's episode of Dynamite as Don Callis set up a separate assignment for both men first. Before they get to the title bout, Takeshita and Okada are slated to team together against The Young Bucks at Dynasty on April 12.
How the Dynasty match led here
Callis had previously been working toward an Okada and Kyle Fletcher pairing against Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson at Dynasty, but Fletcher's injury changed those plans. That opened the door for Takeshita to step in and for the eventual singles match with Okada to be made for Double or Nothing.
The International Championship picture has been getting more crowded in recent days, especially with Okada already scheduled for another title defense on AEW Collision.
What Okada vs. Takeshita means for Double or Nothing
Okada and Takeshita being asked to coexist at Dynasty gives AEW a clear bridge into Double or Nothing, and it puts the International Championship feud in motion weeks before the pay-per-view.
It also gives Takeshita a major singles spotlight against one of the company's biggest names. If the Dynasty tag match falls apart, that tension would only add more heat to the title match heading into May 24.
