Summary

Mark Davis says the uneven path that took him from Australia to the United Kingdom, Japan, and eventually the United States helped shape the wrestler he is now, but his latest AEW run has a different feel because he is healthy again.

That outlook comes at an important moment for Davis. On the May 9 episode of AEW Collision, he beat Jack Perry to win the AEW National Championship, his first singles title reign since holding the Fight Club: Pro Championship in 2019. The title change also followed Perry's announced defense against Davis on Collision: Fairway to Hell.

Quote from Mark Davis

While discussing his road to AEW, Davis described a career that often left little room for rest.

"My journey wasn’t very linear. It was hop, skip, jump from Australia to the United Kingdom to Japan to America. There were a lot of points where it was all or nothing. I needed to excel to keep going. I had to wrestle to get my next match, so I couldn’t take time off. I’ll never complain about it. It’s all become part of who I am. It brought me here. And I love that feeling, going balls to the wall, then coming back to the locker room feeling like crap."

Davis also said passion kept him moving through the setbacks he has faced.

"When you boil it down, the biggest part of anything I do is passion. There have been a lot of setbacks, but wrestling has always provided a lot for me. I’m really passionate about what I want to present in professional wrestling. Passion is crucial to my career, and I present that in the ring."

Later in the interview, Davis made it clear that his current health is central to why this stretch feels so meaningful.

"I’m loving the opportunity to feel healthy and to do professional wrestling again–and to do it at such a level in such a great company. My philosophy is to always put my boss in a position where he can trust me. Big things are happening. I want to keep building."

What The AEW National Championship Means For Mark Davis

Mark Davis now has the AEW National Championship, and that gives this run immediate weight beyond a feel-good quote about being healthy again. After years of stops, starts, and injury setbacks, he is finally speaking from the position of a singles champion on national television.

His comments also point to what matters most in the next phase of this reign. Davis is not presenting this as a comeback lap. He is framing it as a chance to prove he can be trusted in a bigger role, which makes this title win feel like a genuine opening for him to build lasting singles momentum in AEW.
