Summary
Max Star reflected on one of the biggest wins of his career after he unmasked Polvora in the 8-man Lucha de Apuestas at Homenaje a Dos Leyendas 2026.
He described the match as physically and emotionally demanding, especially because it was his first apuestas bout with his own identity at stake. Max Star also addressed a tense in-match moment with Hombre Bala Jr., saying both men stayed on good terms as members of Los Viajeros del Espacio.
Beyond that win, Max Star spoke about the growth of Viajeros del Espacio, his development under coaches including Virus, Arturo Beristain, Tony Salazar, and Volador Jr., and his long-term goals in CMLL and beyond.
Viajeros del Espacio and Max Star's next direction
Max Star connected his recent momentum to the same core group that helped shape his rise, especially Viajeros del Espacio and the training lineage around CMLL's system.
His comments also point to two concrete next-step targets: a World Tag Team Championship opportunity with Futuro against Los Hermanos Chavez, and a potential World Trios Championship match involving Valiente Jr., Futuro, and Max Star against the Sky Team.
Max Star's comments after Homenaje a Dos Leyendas
Quote from Max Star
"It’s a very important achievement in my career—the second most important in Max Star’s career in that 8-Man Match with mask & hair on-the-line stipulation. I went in with the mindset of coming out victorious, but it was a very difficult, very tough fight. I think my heart and my hunger for victory carried me through more than anything else. Honestly, I was very tired, very hurt, but thanks to God and the crowd, which filled me with energy, I came out victorious, my hand raised high."
Max Star also addressed the pressure of navigating that match format for the first time:
"It was kind of tough because the strategy was to stick together at that moment. It was my first apuestas match. The first time I defended my identity and my pride, it was hard. I think my nerves got the better of me at some point. For example, Hombre Bala (Jr.) was about to pin Cancerbero, but I stepped in and told him to wait for me. At that moment, I reacted impulsively. I wanted to beat him with a Magistral, and he told me to let him go. It was a difficult moment, a tense moment, but we’re good as Los Viajeros del Espacio. He has more experience. Maybe he didn’t want to risk his identity, and that was the moment when he had to save his mask, and that’s what he did. It’s part of it, after all. It wasn’t a tag team match; it was each of us individually."
When discussing Viajeros del Espacio's development, he said:
"It’s really wonderful. I think everyone has had their moment, their chance. Take Neon, for example. He’s already a star, an established wrestler. He may still have a long way to go and a lot to learn—just like us, he’s very young—but he’s made the most of every opportunity. He’s already won the Reyes del Aire, the Leyenda de Plata trophy, he’s already competed in AEW and Ring of Honor, and he had the chance to become the CMLL World Trios Champion. It was a wonderful time when he was with us; it wasn’t officially a faction at that point, but it was one of the groups that started with us. He and Futuro came up with the idea, and then they included me, and I’m grateful to them. Los Viajeros del Espacio are a real deal now."
On his coaching influences and his development path in CMLL, Max Star later said:
"Having good coaches is a very important part of a wrestler’s career, and as we’ve seen, Virus is one of the strongest coaches in the CMLL—without taking anything away from anyone else. I think we’ve also had good coaches ourselves; in my case, and that of the three of us and Neon, we trained with Arturo Beristain and Tony Salazar, who, for me, in my career, was the one who pushed me the most, taught me the most, and from whom I learned the most because I spent seven years with him training at the CMLL school. I was there from the age of 14; I arrived with him, and he was the one who forged me into a true professional wrestler. From there, we trained with Volador Jr., who also instilled a great deal of respect in us. He has helped each and every one of us to have that hunger and that drive and, above all, not to back down from anyone. Not to shrink back, but rather, on the contrary, to seize opportunities and show why the CMLL counts on us for everything. These kinds of events give us the chance to wrestle against established wrestlers. We, in our time—as was the case with Futuro and me against Los Hermanos Chávez—have had the opportunity to be part of a Gran Alternativa and very important events."
Looking ahead, he added:
"I think it’s going to give my career a huge boost. It gives me valuable experience that will allow me to keep taking on big challenges and pursuing big dreams in the future. Going to Ring of Honor, maybe returning to NJPW for a Super Junior match—why not the Junior Tag League alongside Futuro? I think we complement each other very well, and we’re very interested in getting a shot at the World Tag Team Championships held by Los Hermanos Chávez. Also, in due time, we’d like to have the opportunity for Valiente Jr., Futuro, and Max Star to face the Sky Team in a match for the World Trios Championships. I think those are the challenges we’re hoping for and want, and, well, down the road, why not headline an anniversary event in a mask match someday? It would be, I think, something even bigger for my career. I try not to settle for anything; I try to keep the same hunger for victory. Just like when I first arrived to train here at the CMLL school. That’s it: keep training, preparing, and dreaming big."
