Summary

Oba Femi believes the version of NXT he shared with Trick Williams and Je'Von Evans will eventually be looked back on with the same kind of affection fans still have for the brand's Black and Gold era.

Speaking in a recent interview, Femi said he takes pride in what the three of them accomplished together. He pointed to how quickly all three rose inside the brand before reaching WWE's main roster around the same time.

Quote from Oba Femi

"It puts joy in my heart knowing that we did what we did for the brand of NXT. We became the top trio in the next year, and we all got called up around the same time, and it’s good to watch the people around you grow as well. They pushed me to become a better version of myself. You know the way the (NXT) Black and Gold is romanticized by fans? I do strongly believe that the Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans and Oba Femi era will also be romanticized."

WrestleMania 42 adds weight to Femi's point

Femi's argument is easier to understand when looking at where all three now stand. Femi and Evans are now on Raw, while Williams is part of SmackDown, and each man is slated for an in-ring spot at WrestleMania 42.

That gives the comment a little more substance than simple nostalgia. WWE has already moved that group from NXT into major main roster roles, and the visibility they are getting this quickly helps explain why Femi thinks fans may eventually look back on that stretch of NXT the way they revisit the Black and Gold years.

Williams has also recently spoken about the identity he brings to WWE television, including how bringing Black culture to WWE TV comes naturally to him.
