Summary
A new report says AEW has shown real interest in working with WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley later this year.
Foley's current WWE Legends deal is reportedly set to expire within the next month, although the report said it is not yet known whether AEW's interest would be tied to a full signing or simply a one-off appearance. The same report added that there was no direct indication Foley was being brought in for Double or Nothing as of now.
Foley remains one of the most recognizable names of his era, and his profile still carries across wrestling and pop culture. That has shown up recently in stories well outside the ring too, including our look at how Bret Hart and Mick Foley helped shape Nick Offerman's role in Margo's Got Money Troubles.
Quote from Jon Alba
"Multiple sources tell The Takedown that AEW has expressed 'real' interest in working with Foley this year, though the capacity of which is not known. It was also not certain whether or not the organization would be interested in signing the 60-year-old, or if it would simply be an appearance."
What Mick Foley could add to AEW
Mick Foley being linked to AEW immediately raises the possibility of a major nostalgia play around a big event weekend, especially with Double or Nothing on the horizon. Even without a confirmed role, Foley's name alone would give AEW another veteran attraction with deep credibility among longtime fans.
At the same time, the report was careful to note that talks may not have moved beyond early interest. That keeps this in the rumor stage for now, and it leaves open whether AEW would want Foley for a television appearance, a pay-per-view cameo, or something more substantial if his WWE deal fully lapses.
