Summary

Penta left the April 11 episode of AAA on FOX with the WWE Intercontinental Championship still around his waist after turning back El Hijo del Vikingo in the main event.

The title match had already been promoted as the centerpiece of the show, and the closing stretch brought outside interference into play before Penta finally shut the door.

Match recap

Dorian Roldán got involved late in the bout and distracted the referee as Vikingo looked for an opening to swing the match his way. Vikingo then went for the Intercontinental Title belt, but Mini Vikingo cut that off before the weapon could be used.

That opening gave Penta the moment he needed. He followed with a Mexican Destroyer on Vikingo and scored the deciding pinfall.

Winner

Penta defeated El Hijo del Vikingo to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship, finishing the match with a Mexican Destroyer.

What Penta's win means before WrestleMania 42

Penta now carries the Intercontinental title into night two of WrestleMania 42 with his momentum intact, where he is scheduled to defend the belt in a six-pack ladder match against Je'Von Evans, Dragon Lee, J.D. McDonagh, Rusev, and Rey Mysterio.

That makes this AAA defense more than a one-night result. Penta protected the championship before a crowded WrestleMania title match, while Vikingo came up short after the late chaos around ringside.
