Summary
Stu Grayson is the new Interim MLP Canadian Champion after surviving a six-person gauntlet match at MLP Uprising on March 28. Entering fifth, Grayson outlasted the field and finished Jonathan Gresham with the Knightfall to claim the interim title.
Gauntlet Breakdown
The match opened with Jay Lethal and Michael Oku. Oku landed the first elimination, countering Lethal's top rope elbow with a crucifix pin to send Lethal out.
Rohan Raja was the third entrant and wasted no time, blindsiding Oku and eliminating him quickly. Rich Swann came in fourth but couldn't slow Raja down, falling to a backstabber followed by a leaping downward spiral.
Grayson entered fifth and dispatched Raja with the Knightfall. Jonathan Gresham came in last, but before he reached the ring, Raja returned with a chair and attacked Grayson, leaving him hurt heading into the deciding exchange. Grayson fought through it and put Gresham away with the Knightfall to win the interim title.
Winner
Stu Grayson captured the Interim MLP Canadian Championship, last eliminating Jonathan Gresham with the Knightfall.
What the Result Means for Grayson and MLP
The interim title exists because Josh Alexander, the reigning MLP Canadian Champion, is currently out with a knee injury and awaiting surgery. With no return date set, MLP put the interim championship on the line at Uprising to keep the title picture moving.
Grayson now holds that interim gold, which puts him on a natural collision course with Alexander whenever the latter returns. Rohan Raja's repeated interference throughout the gauntlet, including the chair shot before the final fall, sets up an ongoing issue between Raja and Grayson in the near term.
