Summary
Road Dogg says he has one more gimmick match idea in mind, and it involves reuniting with Billy Gunn for a fight against Austin and Colten Gunn.
Speaking during a virtual signing with K & S WrestleFest, Road Dogg was asked about the possibility of appearing in AEW alongside his longtime tag team partner. He said the match he would want is a Dumpster match against Billy's sons, Austin and Colten, who have been back in the AEW picture following Colten Gunn's recent return.
Quote from Road Dogg
"I wanna have one last Dumpster match against his children. I figure they (AEW) would (host the match), but I need like a year. I need like nine months. At least three quarters."
Road Dogg's AEW idea is clearly not an immediate plan
Road Dogg made it sound like a fun long-shot scenario, not something close to being booked. By saying he would need at least nine months to get ready, he put the emphasis on the novelty of the reunion with Billy Gunn more than any immediate crossover angle.
If it ever happened, the hook is obvious. Road Dogg and Billy Gunn would be leaning on their longtime history as a team, while Austin and Colten Gunn would bring the family angle on the other side of the match. For fans, that makes this more of a fantasy attraction than a real short-term program at this stage.
Earlier AEW talk from Road Dogg
This also follows Road Dogg's earlier comments in April, when he shot down the idea of working behind the scenes for AEW. That gives this latest remark a lighter tone, with the focus staying on one last match concept rather than any wider move into the promotion.
