Summary

The Young Bucks say a crossover match with The New Day nearly moved beyond fantasy booking in 2018.

While looking back on The Elite's Street Fighter V showdown with The New Day at E3, Matt and Nick Jackson recalled that they were actively trying to turn that crossover into a real wrestling match. The E3 appearance featured Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E opposite Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson and Kenny Omega.

According to the Bucks, that effort included conversations on both sides, and even a direct call with Triple H.

Quote from Matt Jackson

Speaking on *Being The Elite*, Matt Jackson said:

"We truly were trying to get a New Day vs. Young Bucks and Kenny Omega match to happen. Actively. They said they were trying on their side. We were definitely talking to our bosses. Even to the point in 2018 when we got on the phone with Triple H. We talked to him and said, ‘Hey, we would really like to do this match.’ I don’t know if he was necessarily interested in doing that match. I think he was more interested in pursuing us to work for him, but we talked to him about it. We were serious about doing the match, and we thought we would probably be able to do it. Unfortunately, we never did."

What Matt Jackson's story means for New Day and The Elite

Matt Jackson's account adds a little more weight to the idea that New Day vs. The Elite was more than just a fan daydream. If the Bucks were directly pitching the match to Triple H in 2018, then both groups at least explored whether one of wrestling's most talked-about crossover bouts could actually happen.

It also lands at an interesting time for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. With both men now out of WWE and their next move still unknown, the story is another reminder of how long New Day and The Elite have circled each other without ever sharing a ring in a proper match.
