Summary
Shannon Moore says his second WWE run in 2006 started with a direct text message to Vince McMahon.
While speaking on Rewind Recap Relive, Moore said he was in TNA at the time and felt the work he was doing there had helped him develop more as a character. He said he needed money, decided to take a chance on contacting McMahon, and reached out himself after his then-wife, who worked in WWE as a costume designer, could not get time with him that day.
Quote from Shannon Moore
"I was like, 'Man, I need money right now.' I'm doing some really good stuff in TNA. My character's been developed. I was like, 'I'm gonna get a hold of Vince.' I was remarried at that point to a costume designer that was in WWE. I had asked her like the night before we filmed. I was like, 'Hey, can you ask Vince if it's okay. Like, send him some pictures of what I'm doing now.' She wasn't able to like get a hold of Vince because he was so busy that day. I shot Vince a text message on his cell phone. I was like, 'Hey Vince, it's Shannon Moore.' Like just throwing a shot in the dark that he would even get it. We filmed TNA that night and I was at the Double Tree. My buddy who actually just passed away, Carrie, was with me down there. Me and him were walking from the Double Tree to this Japanese restaurant in Orlando that was close to the Double Tree. Johnny Ace called me. He's like, 'Hey kid. I don't know what you did, but Vince has come to me and looks like you got your contract coming to you. We're going to sign you back.' I was like, 'Oh, okay. Thanks, Johnny.'"
What Moore's story says about that WWE era
Moore's retelling paints his 2006 return as a reminder of how directly Vince McMahon could still influence roster decisions in that period. One text, followed by a call from John Laurinaitis, was enough to move the process along.
It also shows Moore believed his TNA run had changed how WWE viewed him. He specifically said his character had developed there, which suggests he saw that time away from the company as the key reason he had a stronger case for a return. That same hands-on McMahon approach has surfaced in other talent stories too, including Bobby Lashley's recollection of how McMahon used the Lana storyline to pull more personality out of him.
