Summary
Teddy Long says there is nothing to recent talk about him returning as SmackDown general manager when the show moves back to two hours this summer.
Long addressed the rumor on his Road Trippin podcast and said WWE has not reached out to him about any kind of on-screen comeback. He also made it clear he is comfortable with where his life is now, pointing to his lighter schedule and the fact he no longer has to stay on the road.
Long was one of the defining authority figures of the brand during his run as SmackDown and ECW general manager, which began in 2004.
Quote from Teddy Long
"I have no idea. I know nothing about it. WWE has not contacted me, called me, or anything. Whoever started that, I appreciate you thinking about me, playa. I just start laughing because I know that ain't going to happen."
Long later went on to say:
"It's not like it used to be. There ain't no live events so I wouldn't be on the road, just do TV. I'm at home, I sleep in my own bed almost every night. I love going out and doing the signings. I just enjoy doing those and getting on the plane and going home. I'm not one of these guys that don't know when to take the cape off. I know when to take the cape off. I had a great run, I ain't bitter about a thing. That ain't gonna happen, they ain't calling me."
What Teddy Long's comments mean for SmackDown
Teddy Long's comments shut down the idea that a SmackDown return is in motion right now, at least from his side of things. That matters because his name still carries weight with fans who remember his long run as the face of the blue brand, but this update leaves that nostalgia pop firmly in the rumor category.
It also suggests any changes tied to SmackDown's move back to two hours are more likely to come through the current presentation than through a returning legacy authority figure. Unless that changes, Long's role in WWE history appears to be staying where he says he wants it, as a fondly remembered chapter rather than a new assignment.
