Summary

Trevor Lee said the Wednesday Night Wars brought out a competitive edge in him that still carries into his work today. Looking back on the period when NXT and AEW Dynamite were airing head-to-head each week in 2019, Lee said he was driven by the idea of helping his brand win that fight.

He said that same approach now follows him into MLW, where he still wants to prove the company can stand up against any promotion.

Quote from Trevor Lee

Speaking on In The Weeds, Lee described how seriously he took those Wednesday battles.

“It’s the same as it is even now. Like, it doesn’t matter if it’s a Wednesday Night War, if it’s a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, it doesn’t matter. When Trevor Lee’s on a show, I’m very passionate, right? So for instance, a couple years ago on those Wednesdays, I was very passionate that I wanted to beat the other brand.”

Lee later went on to say:

“That continues over now into MLW. When I’m going out there and I’m wrestling for MLW, I had that same passion. I want to be able to show that we can compete against any brand. It doesn’t matter where it’s at. We’re going to be ready to go. That’s the same feelings that we had on those Wednesday nights as well.”

What Trevor Lee's NXT past means for MLW

Trevor Lee's comments frame MLW as more than just his next stop, they show he is still measuring his work against the biggest brands in the business. That gives his current run a clear competitive edge, especially since he directly connected his MLW mindset to the same mentality he had during NXT's weekly battle with AEW.

For wrestling fans, that also helps explain how Lee sees his role in MLW. Rather than treating the promotion as a smaller stage, he presented it as a place where he can keep proving his value against the wider industry standard.
