Summary
Will Ospreay got the backup he asked for on AEW Dynamite when Callum Newman, HENARE and Francesco Akira joined Alex Windsor in coming to his aid during the show's opening brawl with Jon Moxley and the Death Riders.
The arrival paid off a development from Sakura Genesis, where Ospreay had already turned to United Empire for help with his Death Riders problem after saying he needed allies in AEW.
How the fight spilled into Dynamite
Dynamite opened with Ospreay and Moxley fighting in the parking lot before Marina Shafir, Daniel Garcia, PAC, Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli joined the fray on Moxley's side.
A black SUV then pulled in, and Windsor stepped out with Newman, HENARE and Akira behind her. The fight continued from the parking lot into the arena and eventually into the ring, where United Empire and Ospreay stood tall.
Ospreay then took the microphone and challenged the Death Riders to face his side in the main event.
What the United Empire reunion means before Dynasty
Ospreay bringing United Empire into the fight gives AEW a direct extension of the issue that followed him out of Sakura Genesis, and it immediately changes the numbers game against Moxley's group. It also puts extra focus on Ospreay's upcoming AEW Continental Championship match against Moxley at AEW Dynasty, because this was no longer framed as a one-man fight.
Newman's appearance added another layer to the segment as well. He entered Dynamite just days after becoming the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion at Sakura Genesis, giving the angle a timely NJPW connection on the same night United Empire answered Ospreay's call.
