Summary

Austin Theory said a hernia was behind the stretch that kept him away from WWE for several months in 2025.

Speaking on The Mark Hoke Show, Theory said he had been wrestling with the issue for a long time before it finally reached a breaking point after a match on *Main Event*. He said the hernia had to be pushed back in after some matches, but one night it would not go back in, which led to a trip to the emergency room.

Theory added that the timing hit especially hard because his contract was also coming up, leaving him unsure about what came next while he was suddenly out of the picture.

Quote from Austin Theory

"Everything happens for a reason, but I was actually wrestling with a hernia for a very long time. As gross as it is, man, I was having to pop it back in after certain matches, just stuff people don't know about. They don't know when somebody goes to the ring what the damage is."

Theory later went on to say:

"But I was in a good spot. Even when it was hitting a low for me, I was doing everything I could to just stay and keep the wheels turning on the car. And it reached a point, I had a match on Main Event, and it would not go back in.

So that night, I went to the emergency room, and it blew my mind because I was like, 'Wow, I just had my gear on and I went out there and wrestled, and now I'm in the ER.' And now it's like, well, where does this go now? Because now I'm out of the picture.

My contract was actually coming up, so a lot of things were hitting me personally. And that's kind of one of those things, a low point in your life where you get really rocked. And to me, those points are where you either stay down or you pick yourself up and become a version of yourself that's always been in you, but it takes you to that next level.

And it helped me reframe my mindset and everything. And coming back, I just knew, this is my value and this is what I need to be doing. And as you see, it's clear vision now."

Austin Theory's WWE comeback picture

Theory's comments make his 2025 absence look less like a creative stall and more like a physical issue he had been trying to manage until he could not anymore. The biggest immediate takeaway is that his return came after a serious medical problem and a contract decision colliding at the same time, which gives more weight to his comments about coming back with a clearer sense of his value.

If WWE follows through on that reset, Theory now has a straightforward real-life explanation for the gap in his run, and that can help frame whatever the next phase of his presentation becomes.
