Summary

Callum Newman said he would be open to making more appearances in AEW, but only while representing New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Speaking on Midnight Kingdom, Newman reflected on the experience of appearing on American television during the build to AEW Dynasty, when Will Ospreay brought members of United Empire into the promotion to help fight off the Death Riders. Newman said the appearance gave him a chance to step into a different environment while also putting the IWGP Heavyweight Championship on live American TV.

The interview comes not long after Will Ospreay reacted to Newman's IWGP Heavyweight title win, and it arrives just before Newman's first defense against Shingo Takagi at Wrestling Dontaku on May 4.

Quote from Callum Newman

Newman said the AEW appearance stood out because of the audience and the visibility it gave New Japan's top title.

"I mean, it's American TV. It was a good experience. I got to experience a different world, and it's the first time that the V4 Championship has been shown on live American TV. So, yeah, you're welcome New Japan."

When asked if he wants to appear for the promotion more often, Newman made clear how he sees that role.

"Yeah, as a New Japan guy. I wanna be the New Japan guy going over there and just showing that this style is better than theirs, and just proving that New Japan wrestlers are way better than AEW wrestlers."

After the interviewer joked that many foreign talents say that before eventually leaving, Newman acknowledged the history.

Newman later went on to say:

"Yeah, I know. I'm fully aware. I'm fully aware. Everybody says it and then they go, and then no one trusts the next foreigner that comes up. I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm fully aware."

What Newman's AEW Comments Mean Before Wrestling Dontaku

Newman tied his AEW interest directly to his NJPW identity, which matters with Wrestling Dontaku next on the calendar and his first IWGP Heavyweight Championship defense coming against Shingo Takagi. That framing keeps the focus on New Japan's champion using outside appearances to elevate the belt rather than teasing an immediate move elsewhere.

It also gives any future AEW appearance a built-in angle. Newman is not talking about blending in, he is talking about showing up as an NJPW standard-bearer, which gives both promotions a clear rivalry-based hook if he crosses over again.
