Summary
Danhausen is headed toward WWE Backlash, but he still has one problem to solve before he gets there. After tensions with The Miz and Kit Wilson escalated on Friday's SmackDown, Nick Aldis granted Danhausen a tag team match against them for Backlash, with the catch that he must find a partner first.
How the match came together
The issue built through a pair of run-ins on SmackDown. The Miz and Kit Wilson first tried to set a trap for Danhausen, but that plan did not work. Later in the show, Miz claimed he now believed in Danhausen's curse and said he was willing to mentor him.
That offer was a fake-out. Miz and Wilson used it as a setup to attack Danhausen, which led to Danhausen confronting Aldis backstage and asking for a match.
Aldis approved the request, but only in tag team form. Danhausen now has a match for Backlash if he can convince someone to team with him.
What Danhausen's partner search means for Backlash
WWE now has an easy mystery to carry into the rest of the Backlash build, because Danhausen's missing partner gives SmackDown one more reveal to make before the event. It also keeps The Miz involved in a character-driven feud instead of a one-off skit, while Kit Wilson's role gives the heel side a second body for the payoff.
The addition also helps round out a card that is still coming together, with WWE recently confirming that the first hour of Backlash 2026 will air on ESPN2.
