Summary

Trick Williams says The Rock helped shape how he thinks about pro wrestling, especially when it comes to charisma, crowd control, and ring presence, but he is not trying to become a copy of one of WWE's biggest stars.

Williams explained that studying The Rock was part of what drew him toward a WWE career in the first place. He said he paid close attention to the way The Rock could command an audience, but his goal was never to become "the next Rock."

That mindset fits where Williams is right now. He has already been pushed into bigger spots on WWE television, including a recent SmackDown appearance with Lil Yachty before Sami Zayn interrupted, and he is now set for his first WrestleMania match.

Quote from Trick Williams

Speaking during a recent interview, Williams said:

"Yeah man, so shout out to Wade with the fade, that's what I call him. But, yeah, as far as when it comes to The Rock, you know, The Rock was one of those guys who made me wanna actually be in the business in the first place. I used to watch his promos and how he could control the crowd with his voice, and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. Even more so than a wrestler, just how he was so charismatic, so stoic that the people were just captivated with everything that he said. So when I actually decided I'm gonna pursue this business, I'm gonna become a WWE superstar, he was one of the reasons that I was really studying and watching the things that he did, not to become the Rock, not to be just like the Rock, but so the crowd scream as soon as they heard the first bit of your music. I wanted to know what it felt like to just come out flying and just sit there and let the people feel your presence. So, there's a lot of things that The Rock did that influenced me as a performer, but by no means do I want to be the next Rock. I got to be the new Trick Williams, the one and only Trick Williams, because what The Rock has done has already been done. So I gotta find a way to do it."

What this means for Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42

Williams naming The Rock as an influence is not surprising, but the more important part is that he framed his ambition around becoming a distinct star rather than a tribute act. With a United States Championship match against Sami Zayn set for night two of WrestleMania 42, WWE is clearly positioning him on a much bigger stage.

That makes this comment feel relevant beyond a simple interview pull quote. Williams is entering his first WrestleMania match while trying to establish exactly who he is in front of a wider audience, and that kind of identity matters when WWE is deciding who can break through from a hot act into a lasting main roster presence.
