Summary
Zilla Fatu says Jacob Fatu's move to WWE changed the course of his own career, because it pushed him away from tag team work and forced him to figure out singles wrestling on his own.
Speaking in a recent interview, Fatu looked back on the stretch when he and Jacob briefly teamed together on the independent scene, with many of those matches taking place in GCW. He said the pairing caught fire quickly, but Jacob's eventual WWE signing brought that run to an abrupt end and left him searching for his next step as an individual performer.
The comments add another layer to a stretch where Fatu has been more open about his path in wrestling, including when he recently said WWE remains his top career goal.
Quote from Zilla Fatu
Fatu told Bootleg Kev that he first linked back up with Jacob after his run with Reality of Wrestling ended.
"I made my debut there and then a really a week after that, me and Booker T, we got into it personally. It ended up with me leaving Reality Of Wrestling. It's crazy because at the same time I'm going through all this with Booker T, Jacob's going through the stuff he's going through with MLW. They didn't want to release him, whatever whatever. Jacob called me one day and was like, 'Hey, I heard what happened, do you have anything lined up?' I'm like, 'Hell nah bro, I ain't got nothing lined up, what's up?' He was like, 'Bro, let's work, let's get together and take over shit.'"
Fatu later went on to say the team built momentum fast before the run was cut short.
"Bro, we got together and our first eight matches, we took over. We was the top tag team/duo in the game and I was really excited to see what The Werewolf and The Main One could build. Within our eight matches, our last two matches went viral. We was able to do millions of numbers and it's just crazy because he gets signed and then it kind of forced me to get away from the tag and go to the singles talk."
Looking back, Fatu said he did not immediately believe he could carry that next stage on his own.
"At that time, I didn't see it. I didn't believe in it. But now, it's different because I had to figure it out on my own. The fact that I was under Jacob's tree for a year, I was able to get some knowledge off him and it helped me become the star I am today."
What Jacob Fatu's WWE move meant for Zilla Fatu
Jacob Fatu's WWE signing immediately changed Zilla Fatu's lane, because the tag run he believed in was no longer there to build around. That matters for how fans should read Zilla's recent interviews and indie appearances, as more of his story now centers on whether he can turn family ties and early buzz into a singles breakthrough.
It also shows why Jacob still looms large in Zilla's development. Even after the team ended, Zilla is framing that period as the foundation for the confidence and ring knowledge he is trying to carry into the next stage of his career.
