Summary
Robbie X will open his Battle Of The Super Juniors 2026 run against Nick Wayne on May 14, and he made it clear he expects a demanding start to the tournament.
Wayne, still only 20, has already built experience in AEW, Japan, and on the independent scene. Robbie X pointed to that mix of youth and ring knowledge when discussing the matchup, while also looking ahead to what a deep run in the tournament could mean for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title picture.
Quote from Robbie X
Speaking ahead of the tournament opener, Robbie X said:
"He’s a special character (laughs). I actually wrestled him in his first match in the UK, I think when he was 17 or so. He spent a lot of time in the last year out injured, but he’s still crazy young and has a lot of wrestling knowledge for someone so young. It’s an exciting start."
Robbie X later went on to say:
"Well, like I said, you’re never just facing DOUKI right now, it’s always the HOUSE OF TORTURE. The plan was to beat him in the group stages, but now he’s sneaked out of that. He always has a plan and a way to avoid losing that championship, but I have Unbound Co. as well, and it’s not just me that wants to see an end to HOUSE OF TORTURE in control of that title."
Nick Wayne's Role In The BOSJ Field
Nick Wayne opening against Robbie X gives the tournament an immediate cross-promotional point of interest, because Wayne arrives with AEW exposure and growing experience in Japan despite his age. If Wayne handles that spotlight well, it only strengthens the sense that he is being positioned for bigger junior heavyweight opportunities outside AEW as well.
Robbie X also framed the larger tournament stakes around DOUKI and HOUSE OF TORTURE. That keeps the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in view from the start, and it gives his opening match extra weight beyond simply getting points on the board.
